Springtime Surprise

hiking Mt. Hood in Clackamas County 051

Springtime Surprise

Rocks
Baking
In late spring.
Sun beating down.
The alarm rattling.
From underneath
Emerges,
Slithers,
Snake.

I absolutely love the outdoors. As winter fades and spring emerges, I’m outdoors hiking more and more. On occasion, I run into one of the denizens of the forest, which serves as the subject of this poem. I try to leave them alone. The forest is their home, not mine.
