Midnight Waters

Midnight black floods through the window.
Tiny glows show in the distance,
Solitary, without motion.
Deathly still through gloom’s crescendo
Pondering their sole existence,
While floating through the empty night.
Am I in the lifeboat or the ocean?
Will sunrise bring me needed light?

Day 14 of NaPoWriMo calls for a poem in the form of a “san san”.  It’s an 8 line poem with an a-b-c-a-b-d-c-d pattern.  Three ideas should repeat through the poem.  I chose dark, light and motion which seemed to take on a life of their own becoming a rather gloomy poem.  I guess that’s what I get for waking in the middle of the night and writing a poetry in the dark!

An interesting, thought-provoking, visually appealing poem! 🙂 I agree, those three terms breathes through this piece.

Question: So san san is really an 8-line poem? 🙂
