Said Better, Simply

We both asseverate,
it is just plain axiomatic,
starting the day any other way
is just plain stupid.

Otherwise desultory mornings
ascertain propitious levels
of crankiness
and rotten headaches

Indubitably she rose
with a perfunctory walk
to the kitchen
for a hot cup of joe.

Greeted by quite the diaspora,
She repositioned the countertop paraphernalia.
Last night we just plain forgot
so we’ll put the junk away later.

Hot coffee in hand,
we stepped out on the deck,
Greeted with the commencement
of a pulchritudinous sunrise.

She thought it pretty,
but I thought it nothing next to her,
my proximally positioned,
sapient, coruscating woman.

Jointly we cachinnated
over a shared epiphany:
the fanciest things in life aren’t words,
but our time together.

Day 24 of NaPoWriMo is a mix and match poem.  I went with a mixture of ridiculously pompous poetic words that I paired with everyday words.  Admittedly I had the dictionary close at hand while writing this one.  It was pretty fun, though, and I learned a few new words that I just might try over coffee with my love.  Indubitably she’ll cachinnate and tell me not to talk that way anymore!

  1. I really enjoyed this poem. What a great idea and well-written, too. The contrast between the fancy words and the everyday ones was pretty funny!
