A sea shanty, really? That’s what we’re supposed to write? Well, I embarked on the challenge and I’m not going to give up on day 3. So, here is my take at a sea shanty that takes place entirely on land. I was inspired by my scout troop, thinking about them singing a song while hiking.
We Are Hikers Today
We Packed our gear and lashed it down,
So we could hike it all around.
With maps we brave these forest routes.
While wearing pairs of our best boots.
[chorus]
In the summer and in the woods.
We’re hiking through with all our goods.
We stop to rest by forest streams,
Boy Scout buddies make real good teams.
[chorus]
So strongly hiking, like a champ,
‘Til light grows short; we’ll stop to camp.
We’ll build our fires and make our chow.
Outdoorsman cooks with great know-how.
[chorus]
And when we tire and have to sleep.
We’ll pitch a tent, then in we’ll creep.
Rise with the sun, while its newborn.
We wake so early in the morn’
[chorus]
Chorus
We are, hikers today.
We are, on our way.
We are, loyal scouts.
We have, zero doubts.
We are, going to thrive.
We are, Troop Forty-Five.
This is very clever and well laid out. I wouldn’t have done that prompt. I seldom do.
Good luck through April.
Thanks! I hope the troop enjoys it, too. I think I’m going to try to get them to sing it 🙂
Excellent – and I’m glad you spelled out the chorus!
